Matthew Petrillo Arlington Heights, IL Death-Obituary: Honoring A Beloved Brother

Hello, my name is Taylor Petrillo, a 21-year-old lifelong resident of Arlington Heights. From attending Windsor Elementary and South Middle School to graduating from St. Viator High School, and now continuing my journey at the University of Dayton, this community has always been home. It’s also the place where my family and I have found a meaningful way to honor my late brother, Matthew Petrillo.

Each year, we organize a blood drive in Matthew’s memory—an effort that has grown into something truly powerful. Over the past three years alone, we have collected enough blood donations to help save more than 400 lives. This year, we are setting an even bigger goal: 100 donations. It’s more than just a number—it’s a chance to continue Matthew’s legacy of helping others.

Matthew was the kind of person who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. A graduate of St. James School and Prospect High School, he had a contagious smile and a spirit that turned every day into an adventure. He made friends wherever he went, carried no grudges, and was always ready to lend a hand. Even after his passing, Matthew’s generosity lived on through organ donation—his heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys were used to save lives, continuing his mission of kindness.

This year’s blood drive will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at St. James School Gym, located at 820 N Arlington Heights Road. Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled through the American Red Cross by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting RedCrossBlood.org. Donors can also save time by using RapidPass online.

We invite everyone to join us in honoring Matthew by giving the gift of life. Together, we can keep his legacy alive—one donation at a time.
